Machinima – the use of real-time computer graphics engines to create a cinematic production. Most often, video games are used to generate the computer animation – Wiki
A few days into 2005 my family got high-speed internet. That holiday break was pretty awesome because I was no longer under the repressive regime known as dial-up. Fast forward about a year and change I finally discovered YouTube. For a while I would just look up funny videos and watch hours upon hours of anime. Then after say six months or so I come across these little videos with Halo 2. The first thing I noticed was that it was not game play but short shows. One of my favorites was the Red vs Blue series. I remember it quite well since I spent like 4 days watching every episode of the Blood Gulch Chronicles. Though I have to admit that the “final” 100th episode with 3 alternate endings was kinda weak. The newer content from Rooster Teeth on Red vs Blue is interesting but has gone with a more serious tone and is not my cup of tea. Another one of my favorite Halo 3 machinima’s was Spriggs which I feel was always good for a laugh and never really tried to change what it was. I strongly suggest you watch the first episode below.
(Fun Facts: I got high-speed internet a month before YouTube came out, February 14, 2005, and I have been a member of YouTube since January 27, 2007 with zero videos)
After a while I came across a channel called Machinima and at first thought that their content was pretty interesting so I subscribed to their channel. Though for the most part I really just came for their segment called Inside Gaming. At this point the show would only be on twice a week because they used they used the Halo games to do their news show. So when I would log in on YouTube I would check if they put up a new video, get my news and do whatever. An for a while I got all my gaming news from either Inside Gaming or X-Play (I’ll talk about that at a later date).
Fast forward to the present date I am still watching their videos, but now they come out daily. An in all honesty, and if you been around my blog you would know, if I have posted a video it has more than likely come from Inside Gaming or another one of Machinima’s channels. For me, if any news comes out of Machinima it is solid info, unless they say other wise.
On a more personal note I would have to contribute part of the reasoning I started this blog was because of Inside Gaming. To be more specific I would say Adam Kovic, and company, are an inspiration to me on why I decided to pursue gaming in a more serious fashion. I would also have to say that Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb, of X-Play fame, are also big inspirations to me also. If it was not for these people, and the fact I figured out what I wanted to do with my life, I would have no goals to focus on. And for that I would like to thank them for all their hard work and love of video games.
